Application
The General Surgery residency program at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston is currently approved to match 8 categorical residents each year. Of these, 1-2 positions are offered to applicants from the United States Army, through the military matriculation program as a US Army Civilian Partnership. Additionally, we match designated and non-designated preliminary positions, who will each undergo 12 months of general surgery training based on their specialty field of interest. Following completion of the intern year, designated preliminary residents will transition to their specialty training. Non-designated preliminary residents that are not matched into a PGY2 position will be supported through the re-application process for the following year.
