Curriculum & Education
Overview
Residents achieve clinical proficiency through graduated responsibility commensurate with their abilities and levels of training during five years of clinical experience. They rotate through several subspecialties including pediatric surgery, transplantation, cardiothoracic surgery, orthopaedic surgery, urology, plastic surgery, vascular and endovascular surgery, trauma and surgical critical care, colon and rectal surgery, endocrine surgery, gastrointestinal and minimally invasive surgery, and surgical oncology. This also includes rotation through the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and St. Claire Regional Medical Center for broad and extensive surgical experience.
Application
Eight PGY-1 residents are accepted into the categorical general surgery program each year. Residents are encouraged to apply through the residency program's application website. The application requires submission of materials along with specific prerequisites typically due by early December with interview dates following soon after.
