The curriculum follows the requirements for family medicine per the ACGME but additionally focuses on unique aspects of military medicine. With a robust L&D service, most residents will graduate with at least 100 vaginal deliveries and manage a variety of antepartum and peripartum complications. Within the procedures clinic, residents focus on gynecologic procedures including IUD placement, colposcopy, endometrial biopsy, migraine botox, skin biopsies and in-office vasectomy. As the local level 2 trauma center, residents will support the ER in running trauma codes and managing complicated emergent patients. The inpatient medicine service is robust and exposes residents to both ICU and general medicine ward patients. Residents will work under both family medicine and internal medicine attending physicians while learning to perform intubation, central line placement, paracentesis, and other hospitalist procedures. Outside rotations include Inpatient Pediatrics and Surgical ICU months at Vidant Medical Center.
