Curriculum & Education

Overview

The program spans 60 months, including 51 months of clinical urology training, organized into rotations across various hospitals such as Froedtert Hospital, Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, and Children’s Wisconsin, offering diverse clinical experiences.

Application

The residency program participates in the AUA Residency Match; applicants must utilize ERAS for the application process. Requirements for US Medical Students include an ERAS online application, three letters of recommendation, a CV, a personal statement, medical student transcripts, USMLE Step 1 scores, a Dean’s letter, and any prior GME training. IMG applicants must provide the same information along with additional documentation like ECGMG certification, US Citizenship, J-1 visa, and H1-B visa.

Residents will work at four core locations including Froedtert Hospital, Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Children’s Wisconsin, and two local community hospitals.

Fellowship

Graduates of the MCW Urology residency program have pursued fellowships in Urology oncology, Laparoscopy/Robotics, Infertility and Andrology, Pediatric urology, Benign Prostate Diseases, Urologic reconstruction, Endourology, and Sexual dysfunction. Institutions where alumni pursued fellowships include University of Chicago, Washington University (St. Louis), Virginia Mason Medical Center, among others.

Since 2008, approximately half of the graduates joined private practices while the other half pursued fellowship training or academic positions. Common fellowships include Urology oncology, laparoscopy/robotics, infertility and andrology, pediatric urology, benign prostate diseases, urologic reconstruction, endourology, and sexual dysfunction. Alumni have taken faculty positions at institutions including Johns Hopkins University, Washington University, University of Michigan, and more.
