Curriculum & Education
Overview
During the CA-1 year, the resident will provide care for a wide variety of surgical cases as they become more proficient and hone in on their clinical skills while building their knowledge base. As the resident advances into the CA-2 and CA-3 years, they will be exposed to increasingly complex cases: including obstetric, vascular, cardiovascular, transplant, pediatric, and neurosurgical cases to refine their technique even further.
Application
Medical students should apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). For the 2024-25 Interview Season, we will be conducting virtual interviews. Applicants should apply through ERAS, and interviews will occur between September-December 2024. Confirmed interviewees through ERAS may be allowed an on-site visit. They should contact Ben Strickland to schedule.

Training sites include Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport Academic Medical Center, Overton Brooks Veteran’s Association Hospital, Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, and Willis Knighton Health System. All the facilities are within a ten-minute commute from LSU Health Shreveport.
