Curriculum & Education

Overview

The curriculum at Kaiser Permanente Oakland prepares graduates with foundational knowledge and skills necessary for both generalist and fellowship career paths, with a strong focus on teamwork, interdisciplinary partnerships, and professionalism. It includes protected teaching time, hands-on learning, and simulation methods to enrich learning experiences.

Application

Application submission deadline is September 25, 2024. Initial interview offers will be sent on October 29, 2024. Interviews will begin on November 11, 2024, and will continue through January 13, 2025. Applications must upload materials by September 25, 2024, including a personal statement, CV, medical school transcript, USMLE transcript (MD applicants) or COMLEX transcript (DO applicants), MSPE, and letters of recommendation from at least two clinical faculty.

Residents work at multiple locations across the East Bay, including Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda, and Richmond.

Fellowship

The residency program offers several fellowships, including Addiction Medicine, Bariatric Surgery, Cardiovascular Disease, Community Medicine, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, HIV, Nephrology, Orthopedic Spine Surgery, Pediatric Hospital Medicine, and Urogynecology, among others. Fellowships are provided in affiliation with various institutions.
