The current PGY-1 class consists of 10 categorical residents, with each resident coming from renowned medical schools across the U.S. and internationally, representing diverse backgrounds and specialties of interest.

Curriculum & Education
Overview
During the first year (PGY-1), residents receive orientation including a two-week skills training course, participate in a didactic and simulation curriculum, attend protected educational conferences every Wednesday morning, and engage in weekly service-specific conferences and journal clubs.

Application deadline is Sept. 27, 2024. Categorical General Surgery NRMP program code 1968440C0. Applications are only accepted through ERAS, requiring three letters of recommendation and proof of USMLE exam success. J1 and H1B visa sponsorship available for international medical graduates.

Residents rotate through the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, Fairview Hospital, Hillcrest Hospital, Lutheran Hospital, MetroHealth Medical Center, and various family health and surgery centers.
Fellowship
After residency, graduates typically pursue fellowship training, with many of them entering various subspecialty fellowships in different fields such as Colorectal Surgery and Surgical Oncology. On Call Schedule
The main campus has a night float system consisting of a team of PGY-1, PGY-2, and PGY-4 residents. Regional hospitals have a rotating call schedule with residents taking in house call around 1-2 times per week
