Program Overview
Summary of Residency Program
The general surgery residency program at Atrium Health is a five-year clinical program that matches six categorical and one non-designated preliminary PGY-1 residents annually through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). With a strong emphasis on a holistic review, the program assesses candidates based on educational achievement, communication skills, research experience, and personal qualities. The application process requires foreign medical graduates to have a valid ECFMG certificate and USMLE Step 1 scores. Interviews for the upcoming 2025-2026 training year will be conducted virtually, focusing on engaging prospective residents with current trainees and faculty.
