Curriculum & Education

Overview

The Core Curriculum runs on a two-year cycle and combines both the pathophysiology and basic science of musculoskeletal disease and its clinical application.

Application Deadline: Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. ET (6:00 a.m. PT). Application requirements include: Completed ERAS application, Medical school transcript, Personal statement, USMLE score if applicable, Dean’s letter, and three narrative letters of recommendation.

Fellowship

The residency program provides opportunities for multiple fellowship pursuits post-graduation, which include but are not limited to: Joseph H. Boyes Hand Fellowship, USC Joint Replacement Fellowship, Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship, Spine Fellowship, Spine Medicine Fellowship, and Sports Medicine Fellowship. These fellowships are affiliated with various institutions including Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Keck Medical Center.

Resident Life

Overview

The residency program provides comprehensive training in orthopaedic surgery.

On Call Schedule

Residents rotate through five medical centers. As part of the master schedule of rotations, each hospital develops its own internal call schedules; each resident receives at least one 24-hour period each week, in addition to a one-month paid vacation, 3 days of educational leave, and 12 days of sick leave annually.

PGY1: $70,025.34, PGY2: $71,873.37, PGY3: $75,607.62, PGY4: $81,475.52, PGY5: $87,185.53. In addition, residents receive a stipend for medical license application fees, at least one 24-hour period each week off, a one-month paid vacation, 3 days of educational leave, and 12 days of sick leave annually.
