Curriculum & Education
Overview
The program has a 3-year categorical residency with a 4+2 curriculum model, comprising inpatient and outpatient rotations. Residents participate in team care, critical care, and ambulatory medicine training, with core rotations supplemented by electives and opportunities for global health experience.
Application
Applications accepted through ERAS only. For the 2025 ERAS cycle, participation in the supplemental ERAS application is optional but encouraged. Requirements for application include: current CV, Dean’s letter, 3 letters of recommendation, personal statement, medical school transcripts, USMLE Step 1 CK or COMLEX Level 1 score, and USMLE Step 2 CK or COMLEX Level 2 CE score. Additional requirements for international medical graduates include J-1 or H1-B visas, ECFMG certificate, and recent US clinical experience preferred.

Residents will work at multiple locations including Norwalk Hospital, Vassar Brothers Medical Center, and Danbury Hospital, among others; they also have opportunities at various off-campus sites for subspecialties.

Resident Life
Overview
The Norwalk Hospital Internal Medicine Residency program is academically affiliated with the Yale University School of Medicine and offers a unique Hospitalist Clinician-Educator Program that integrates hospitalists and residents to improve patient care and educational outcomes.
On Call Schedule
First Year: No overnight call on the general medical service. On average, interns do four weeks of night float on the general medical wards. While in the ICU, interns do 2-4 weeks of nights over the course of intern year. Second Year: No overnight call on the general medical service. While in the ICU, overnight call is every third night. Third Year: No overnight call on the general medical service. While in the ICU, overnight call is every third night.
