Curriculum & Education

Overview

Resident supervision is available at all times by attending physicians who are on site 24 hours a day. Resident responsibilities are outlined in the resident protocols. These include, but are not limited to: ward work and teaching rounds, continuity clinic, labor and delivery, the OB/GYN emergency room, and the operating room. Night duty is as assigned by the Chief Administrative Resident. PGY 1 Residents have an introduction to Obstetrics and Gynecology with exposure to Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, and research. PGY 2 Residents have continued training in Obstetrics and Gynecology with Maternal Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, and Research. PGY 3 Residents manage complex cases in Obstetrics and Gynecology and supervise junior residents. PGY 4 Residents, as Chief Residents, perform at an advanced level in obstetrics and gynecology and assume administrative responsibilities.

Application

Residents are required to go through the application process and interviews are by invitation only from the Residency Selection Committee. All necessary forms must be submitted prior to receiving an interview invitation. Completed applications must be submitted to ERAS and include a Dean’s letter, medical school transcripts, USMLE scores, and letters of recommendation.

Residents will rotate in Detroit Michigan as well as Memphis Tennessee in addition to rotations in Middle Tennessee.

Fellowship

At the completion of training, residents are primed for the pursuit of subspecialty fellowships, clinical practices, management, research, and academia in medicine. The program offers training in general obstetrics and gynecology with specializations available in maternal fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology, and infertility, and urogynecology.
