Curriculum & Education

Overview

The Internal Medicine Residency Program utilizes the 4+1 scheduling model, where each resident completes four-week rotations followed by 1 week of continuity clinic. The first year curriculum includes rotations in Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Pulmonology, and an elective. The second year continues with Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Nephrology, and Geriatric Medicine, while the third year consists of Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Hematology/Oncology, Rheumatology, and Neurology. Didactics include weekly and monthly conferences, as well as wellness didactics for residents.

Application

The McLaren Greater Lansing Internal Medicine Residency Program only accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Paper applications or emailed applications will not be accepted. Minimum entrance requirements include being a U.S. citizen or holding a valid green card, passing scores on USMLE/COMLEX scores, and completing medical school within 4 years. Required documents include a complete ERAS application, Deans letter, Curriculum Vitae, letters of recommendation, and Personal Statement. Virtual interviews will be conducted via Thalamus.

Fellowship

Each resident will participate in at least one scholarly project per year and may engage in specialty training in various subspecialties including Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Infectious Disease, Geriatrics, and Hematology/Oncology. Recent graduates may pursue fellowships in these or associated specialties.
