Curriculum & Education

Overview

PGY 1- 16 weeks OB, 18 weeks GYN, 8 weeks Night Float, 2 weeks SONO-Simulation, 2 weeks ED, 2 weeks Outpatient OBGYN Subspecialties clinic. PGY 2- 8 weeks antepartum, 12 weeks GYN, 2 weeks GYN subspecialties, 8 weeks night float, 4 weeks family planning, 4 weeks REI, 2 weeks research, 4 weeks SICU, 4 weeks outpatient antepartum. PGY 3- 8 weeks OB, 12 weeks GYN, 12 weeks Night Float, 4 weeks outpatient Antepartum, 4 weeks Family Planning, 2 weeks research, 2 weeks GYN/ Breast elective. PGY 4- 8 weeks OB, 20 weeks GYN, 4 weeks Night Float, 8 weeks GynOnc, 8 weeks UroGyn. Each academic year includes 4 weeks of vacation, taken in 1 or 2-week blocks based on resident preferences. Night Float system covers Sunday through Thursday nights. Calls are overnight Friday night, Saturday 24-hour, or Sunday day. Those on-call Saturday have Friday off as their pre-call day. Monday mornings are dedicated educational time for all residents. Residents present recent cases, journal clubs, tumor boards, chair rounds, case based lectures and Morbidity & Mortality conferences. Once per quarter we focus the half-day on optimizing resident wellness through meditation techniques, fun activities, massages, and other aspects of personal wellness.

Application

Applications can be submitted this fall thru the ResidencyCAS system at https://residencycas.liaisoncas.com/applicant/. Three letters of recommendation are required, and both J1 and H1 visas are accepted. A passing step 3 result is required by match day for H1 visa eligibility. No minimum score requirements but attempts are considered. We do not require US clinical experience but it is favorable. Preference for recent graduates, but those five years out with experience may be considered. Applications are accepted through ERAS only and no pre-matches are offered.

Fellowship

Maimonides Medical Center offers several fellowships: Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery Fellowship, Gynonc Fellowship, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship. Residents have gone on to various leading institutions including the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospital for subspecialties and advanced training in their respective fields.

Resident Life

Overview

Maimonides boasts a long history of training excellence. Our graduates have gone on to careers in all the OB/GYN subspecialties, as well as general academic and private practices. We are particularly proud of our Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship and training, our Ryan Program in Family Planning, our Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship. Many graduates still practice at Maimonides, which is a testament to the type of workplace we are and the care we give our patients.

On Call Schedule

Overnight Friday night, Saturday 24-hour, or Sunday day. Those on-call Saturday have Friday off as their pre-call day. Night Float system covers Sunday through Thursday nights.
