Curriculum & Education
Overview
The focus of our residency is to train physicians to practice full-scope family medicine so they can practice anywhere. Our residents have the opportunity to care for patients across many settings including outpatient, inpatient, ICU, and nursing home while practicing in resource-limited areas. This translates to residents taking full responsibility for their patients including performing procedures such as central lines, EGD, and colonoscopies. In addition, being part of a community is core to rural medicine. Residents learn how to improve the health outcomes of their communities by participating in outreach activities and quality improvement projects. Our residents have the opportunity to experience the joy of rural medicine that comes from the special patient-physician bond unique to small communities.
